Amendolara (CS) – On 10 June 2025, CRIMAC – the Centre for Advanced Marine Research and Infrastructure in Calabria, part of the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn – will celebrate its fifth anniversary.
We will be celebrating this significant milestone for scientific research in Calabria and across the region by opening the doors of our Institute to the public and to institutions. It will be a day packed with events and activities, giving everyone the chance to engage with the world of research. It will also be a valuable opportunity to reflect on the role of the scientific community, institutions and local communities in the conservation and sustainable use of the marine environment.
The event will begin at 09:30 with the welcome and registration of participants.
The event will be opened by Prof. Silvestro Greco, Vice-President of the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn, who has been a staunch supporter of the project from the outset and has played a central role in its implementation. Key figures from the national and regional scenes will speak, demonstrating the strong commitment of the institutions to supporting the CRIMAC project. A significant part of the event will be dedicated to presenting CRIMAC’s activities, from the results achieved to future developments. Representatives from the universities and research bodies that have collaborated to date in achieving the project’s objectives will also speak about their valuable contributions.
Two highlights of the day’s programme will be:
- the live stream from Nice with the Cassiopea Project team, produced by MuMa (Museum of the Sea Milazzo) with the support of SEA BEYOND, a PRADA Group project in partnership with UNESCO-IOC;
- A close encounter with a Caretta caretta sea turtle prior to its release back into the wild, organised by the WWF Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Centre in Policoro (subject to weather conditions and the animal’s state of health).
The afternoon will be devoted to workshops and themed tours of the headquarters, designed for curious visitors of all ages. The activities are open to everyone, but registration is required . For further information and bookings, please email comunicazione.crimac@szn.it.
‘5 Years of CRIMAC: Science, the Sea and the Region for a Sustainable Future’ is not just a celebration of five years of achievements, but also a call to continue investing in research and awareness to ensure a prosperous and sustainable future for Calabria and its precious sea. We look forward to seeing you there!
