From September, Rosario Balestrieri will be writing the chapter on birds in the science book published by Rizzoli Libri

The ornithologist Rosario Balestrieri, a technologist at the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn, CRIMAC Seat, has been selected by the publisher Rizzoli Libri to write the chapter on birds in a new science textbook.

The book, intended for lower secondary schools across the country, will be packed with experiments, practical activities and interviews with 40 experts from the scientific community, with the aim of encouraging students to pursue STEM subjects.

The pages dedicated to the ornithologist Balestrieri will highlight his research and conservation work on seabirds, as well as his efforts to raise awareness of the issues threatening these species.

‘I am deeply honoured and grateful for this opportunity,’ said Balestrieri. “Having the chance to reach students through a textbook allows me to highlight the importance of the work carried out by naturalists, biologists and other professionals in protecting biodiversity and improving people’s quality of life. It also gives me the chance to share my own educational journey, which was marked by the challenges associated with specific learning difficulties. However, these did not prove to be an insurmountable obstacle to achieving my dreams, but rather a characteristic to accept and learn to manage.”
