IBO Italia is visiting CRIMAC again this year
The theme of the day: marine plastic pollution and the research carried out at the centre.
From research to practical action, the volunteers were guided through the process of monitoring macro beach litter on the beach adjacent to the organisation’s headquarters, classifying the waste in accordance with the guidelines of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) and thus building on the experience begun last year.
This stretch of beach forms part of the monitoring and mitigation activities aimed at assessing the impacts on the coastal zone as part of the CRIMAC project’s research. The aim is to build a time series of data to help understand the evolution of plastic pollution, raise awareness within the community through citizen science, and propose mitigation measures.
Once the scientific sampling had been completed, the volunteers continued their clean-up activities in the area, making a tangible contribution to the protection and enhancement of the coastal environment.
