Every piece of rubbish collected from the beach is another step towards a healthier and cleaner sea.
Marine pollution, particularly that caused by plastic, poses a serious threat to the marine ecosystem. Over time, plastic waste breaks down into micro- and nanoplastics, which can enter the food chain, with potential consequences not only for marine life but also for humans.
In view of tomorrow’s International Coastal Cleanup Day, we would like to remind you of the importance of the 3 Rs in helping to protect the marine and coastal environment:
- Reduce the waste we produce every day;
- Reuse anything that can be given a second lease of life;
- Recycling materials properly
On 27 July, volunteers from IBO Italia took part in a beach litter collection and monitoring exercise on the beach adjacent to our headquarters. The litter collected and recorded was categorised in accordance with the guidelines of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD), helping to gather data that will aid the protection of marine ecosystems. The sea unites us; protecting it is everyone’s responsibility.
