Following the success of the first visit, today it was the turn of the second year classes to immerse themselves in the world of marine research at the “Calabria Marine Centre” in Amendolara! A whole morning spent discovering our sea, filled with science, interesting facts and… plenty of surprises!
WORKSHOPS AND LABORATORIES: SCIENCE IN ACTION!
In the classroom:
“Amendolara’s Bank: a sunken treasure” with Lorenzo Evola
“Calabria, the cradle of sea turtles” with Salvatore Urso
“Marine Litter” with Chiara Molino
Educational workshops:
“In Search of Plastic” with Serena Scozzafava and Chiara Molino: the children turned the sand into a microplastic hunt!
“Marine Biodiversity” with Lucrezia Spagoni and Mariaeugenia Samà: exploring shells, marine life and taxonomic curiosities of our sea.
“At the bottom of the sea…” with Giulia Lucido and Roberto Firmamento: diving equipment, sampling with the Niskin bottle and the Van Veen grab… 100% hands-on science!
CRIMACquiz: THE FINAL CHALLENGE!
The children battled it out with their answers on everything they’d learnt. Which team was the most attentive?
A SPECIAL THANK YOU
To the school principal, Dr Sergio Scibilia, for joining us and visiting the CRIMAC premises, accompanied by Chiara Giommi, whom we would like to thank for the excellent organisation of this special day!
STAY TUNED!
New adventures in science communication coming soon…
