Over the last few days, the team from the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn has been carrying out its first fieldwork along the coast of the island of Vulcano.
A collaborative team of researchers from the Sicily and Calabria sites worked side by side to collect environmental data and samples near the island’s underwater CO2 sources.
The aim? To assess the status of animal and plant species and their response to environmental stresses.
This campaign not only marks the start of MIRAMAR’s fieldwork, but also represents one of the first crucial steps towards establishing shared protocols for the study of multiple stressors in marine ecosystems.
An initiative that combines field research, scientific collaboration and innovation to better understand and protect our seas.
