The Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn – CRIMAC and Caretta Calabria Conservation are celebrating a commendable environmental regeneration project in the municipality of Bianco (RC)

Thanks to funding provided by the Regional Marine Parks Authority through the ‘Costa dei Gelsomini’ Regional Marine Park – a protected area established specifically to safeguard sea turtles – the mayor has launched a special initiative aimed at giving back to the community a section of Capo Bruzzano beach, which has been marred by unauthorised structures.

In a move that demonstrates great environmental awareness, the local council has redeveloped the entire area, creating car parks, wooden fencing and access paths to the beach. The most symbolic and creative gesture, however, was transforming the pizza oven from one of the old lidos into a sculpture of a sea turtle! A transformation that embodies a powerful message: where there was once abuse, today there is a symbol of rebirth and protection.

This initiative is a concrete example of how the local community can embrace and actively promote marine conservation. Caretta Calabria Conservation, which has supported the project from the outset, and the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn were present at the inauguration, underscoring the importance of this step forward for the protection of the sea and its inhabitants
